Anatomy of a Battery

Batteries mainly consist of three main components: Anode, Cathode, and Electrolyte.

Anode: The anode is made of lead dioxide (PbO2). During discharge, the anode undergoes a chemical reaction where it releases oxygen ions and lead ions, converting lead dioxide to lead sulfate (PbSO4).

Cathode: The cathode is made of sponge lead (Pb). During discharge, the cathode undergoes a chemical reaction where it accepts the released oxygen ions and lead ions from the anode, converting lead to lead sulfate (PbSO4).

Mostly two types of battery are used for the inverter, Lead Acid and Lithium Ion. Lead Acid batteries are cheaper while Lithium Ion batteries are costly. That’s why people prefer Lead Acid batteries over Lithium-ion batteries.
